Warranty Tranfer Question

Not sure if this is the right forum, but seemed to be best choice.

I am getting no where. A few weeks ago I found a 05 3500 I liked from the original owner and he had an extended Chrysler warranty "service contract" through the dealer. I called them and they said I could transfer it for $50 bucks and told me it was good till Sept 2012 or 100K miles. I bought the truck and tried to transfer the warranty at my local dealer. Truck has 70,216 miles on it. They said they can't transfer the extended warranty because the original power train warranty was up at 70K. I was like *** !??! Why didn't they say that when I called the week before asking about it, and what’s 216 miles ?? I called Chrysler warranty at 800-992-1997 and they told me the same thing. I asked why didn't they tell me that when I called before ?? Then I asked to talk to someone with the ability to approve the transfer even though I was 216 miles past my this “power train” deadline. They said they couldn't. The whole reason I bought the truck was for the warranty and I checked before I bought it to make sure it was transferable, this is a load of crap. Their call center sucks and I can't get anyone else. Who should I call next ??

Contact the original dealer it was purchased from and get them to put in writting it had the 100k warranty and try to track down the original person you talked to saying the warranty could be transfered. If all else fails contact who ever financed the truck for you, explain the deal and pretty sure they'll help because they'd rather finance a truck thats under warranty than one that is not.

I was at the dealer it was purchased from and don't know who was at the Chrylser call center that I talked to make sure the truck had warranty. The guy selling it had the card showing the dates and milage, Chrylser said it had coverage that was $50 to transfer, didn't think it would be a problem. As for the note holder, I paid cash. Don't like payments, and your right, I would rather have a truck with warranty than one without. lol

I like the truck, just wanted the piece of mind bumper to bumper coverage so I paid more for the truck than I would have if it didn't have that warranty. Maybe Fiat will help out.

u will still have the 7/100 engine only warranty if u r the 2nd owner. the fee for transfer is $150 and u have 30 days to transfer it. Yeah id be ****** but there would be no way i would have ever paid more for that truck unless i had everything in writing first, thats just me. The extended warrant is prob worth around $1500. Do you have anything in writing stateing that the warranty will be transfered, if not your sol.

The dealer cant transfer a extended warranty. The previous owner has to file the paperwork. And since he no longer owned truck he can turn it in for a partial refund. You need the dealer to contact the previous owner. The only problem is privacy laws come into effect. So you they wont pass info on to you. So the old owner has to contacty you if he wants to help you.

I think you are a bit mistaken on warrantys. its 5/100 on motor and 7/70 powertrain.

I have the transfer paper work filled out by the last owner. I know what the warrany's are because I called Chrysler with the VIN number to check on all of them and they are 5/100 cummins, 7/70 powertrain and 7/100 bumper to bumper and I called to make sure the 7/100 bumper to bumper was transferable. That is the whole problem. They said I could do it, now they are saying I can't. When I get some time I will call the call center again and see what they say.

Yesterday after asking them to show me in writing where this provision is on the contract they couldn't, but still told me they won't transfer the warranty. I opened a case with the attorney general in MI and cut and paste all the information off the web site and pamphlet I had on the warranty details. Everything said it was transferable up until the date and mileage are met. I called Dodge Service Contracts back with my case number from the attorney general and they wouldn't talk to me. A few hours later the called and I was Mr. Kirby and they were going to all they could to fix it. They offered me 6 yr 100K and $200 to transfer it. I told her I needed the same contract and that it was 7 yr 100k and $50 transfer. She is going back and will get it worked out. We will see.

It should only be a $50 transfer fee. I paid more for my truck for the same reason. My 04 warranty is still good until March 2011 or 70,000 miles which is 42000 miles away.
Good luck and I hope they get it fixed for you. I know I feel better having that warranty since I could no longer afford any major repairs with the current economic crisis.....

Well it seems everything is worked out. I faxed my transfer paper work to them and they said they will get it all transfered. I couldn't get around the $200 transfer fee, but that is still a bargin to get warranty for 30K miles or 2.3 yrs. Hope to here back Monday or Tuesday.

I wouldn't pay a $200 fee when it's stated in the contract the fee is $50. You can go to http://www.dodge.com/en/service_contracts/ and enter the VIN and get a copy of the service contract if you don't have it.

I had the Chrysler Contracts extended warranty transferred on my 2003 about a month ago. The local dealer tried to charge me 200 dollars to transfer it. I presented the contract/paperwork to the woman and mentioned that it clearly states the fee to transfer was 50 dollars. She acted suprised and looked over the contract and charged me 50 dollars. I am now covered bumper to bumper for 100,000 miles or until September 2010. Print out the contract as mentioned in the previous post and present it to the dealer.
