tranfer/lift pump question

i just replaced my fuel module and fuel lines from the tank to the engine.

after priming with the manual bulb, i started the engine. after the engine started, i could smell an electrical burning smell. i turned it off and went to look under the hood to find the top plug on the tranfer pump hot and smoldering.

i don't know what this plug does? some kind of heater? after it cooled, i pulled the plug out of the socket on the tranfer pump to find the end all melted together.

there is a top plug and a bottom plug. this happened to the top plug.

i seperated the wires and taped them up. i then stated it up again and it ran fine.

i have 2 questions...

1. does this set of wires have anything to do with the wiring on the module?
I ask this because it happened instantly after changing the module. perhaps i bumped then with my arm installing the new fuel lines?

2. what do these wires do? do i need them? i'm in a cold climate, but not to often does it go below zero.

ok, its to the front of the lift pump. it's the fuel heater.

buy some research i did, i believe the top plug is the t-stat and the bottom is the element. (line voltage setup)

im finding a part #'s of 3843722s and 3907766s

which one is the t-stat?

are these fleetgard #'s or cummins #'s or both?
