What's with the wait to start squiggly not coming on on the 06's or is it just dad's truck?

 

it only comes on when its cold (below 60 I think)

 

Yeah, we live in MT. Every night is between 45 and 55 lately and it's getting colder. My 04.5 comes on every morning but his hasn't yet. He has had the truck for two nights now.

 

Ditto with my 06'. Only comes on when needed.

 

Try the gauge/lamp check feature to make sure the lamp works.
Push and hold the odo/trip meter button while turning the ignition to "on" and hold it until all the gauges sweep and lamps light. This will verify that the lamp is working properly. If I recall, my '06 "wait to start" doesn't come on until the temps drop to 40*F.
Also, when you perform the gauge/lamp check feature, see what if any codes are displayed. Let us know if any codes are displayed.

According to the manual, for the 06 (not sure if other models) is says no glow plugs needed to precharge unless the intake temp is less than either 66 or 61 degrees

 

I also live in Montana and have yet to see the wait to start indicator, but it's been pretty warm here lately.

 

I have yet to see my wait to start light to come on...but then again LUCKY I live in Hawaii...

 

Well...I did the lamp check and it lights up. I told him to just start it unless he sees that light up then wait for it.

My '06 would display the "Wait to start" icon last March in Jersey. It hasn't come on once since I've been in Southern Cal.
