With all respect, VGT = variable geometry turbocharger.

A variable geometry turbocharger has moveable guide vanes for the turbine (hot) section. These vanes are controlled by the engine control system. At light loads or low RPM, the vanes are in their minimum area position - this makes the turbo behave like a "small" turbo for quick spooling and minimal smoke. At heavy loads or higher RPM, the vanes open to increase the nozzle area to reduce exhaust backpressure and pre-turbo EGT as well as to prevent turbocharger overspeeding - effectively making the turbo behave like a "large" turbocharger.

The June 2004 issue of Motor Trend's Truck Trend, which has a very nice write-up on the 600, says in part
" ... a larger compressor within the same HX35 housing, an electronically controlled wastegate (to get the benefits of variable geomerty without complexity), and a controller with about 50-percent more code in it. An EGR system isn't necessary, which saved roughly 50 part numbers and a lot of plumbing..."
Hope this helps.

The VGT is also water cooled , and from the factory rep said , it could also act as a exh brake.... it would be a good rumor but I doubt that DC will reprogram the ecm for them along with added sensors required for it to work .
