I run Premium Blue ($10) and blend it with Extreme ($16) when they have it. I like the Cummins "C" on the bottle and the blend gives my turbo a little extra protection. I have always been a Valvoline fan.

I run the premium blue the first 20k and then went to the extreme and have been running that ever since (66k) and haven't had any problems, last sample was right in line.

I got a question for for you guys, Does it cause any problems to be switching oils with the seasons i.e. premium blue "extreme" in the winter vs premium blue in the summer?

No, there's no problem with going back and forth.

Most of you probably aready know this but for those who do not the rotella T 5-40 and valvoline Blue Extreme 5-40 are not true synthetics. They are super refined mineral oils which still have the resins in them just like any regular oil.

I don't beleave in useing expensive full synthetic oils but the fake synthetics are so close in cost to a real full synthetic why not use a full synthetic. That's not a question, just a retorical comment.

I run Rotella T 15W-40. I know someone who was running Rotella synthetic in his Cummins and couldn't figure out why mine and my bosses trucks were noticably quieter at all RPMs but especially at idle. He ditched the synthetic and switched back to the real stuff like us and what do you know - nice and quiet again. My boss runs a lighter weight synthetic in his when he goes to Canada snowmobiling but here in Maryland it doesn't get cold enough to justify switching IMO. The manual says 15-40 is fine down to 0 degrees and you don't see that around here unless its a rare couple days and you factor in wind chill. Just my.02 - doesn't seem to be worth the extra $ for synthetic.

15K is for the "light-duty" schedule. The severe duty maintenance schedule (which applies to almost everyone) says to change every 7500. I change mine every 5000. How many miles do you have on yours? I think your supposed to stick with regular for at least 20,000 till the engine is broken in before switching to synthetic but im not sure - just what ive heard. Fill out your sig so we know what you got.
