Valvoline Premium Blue is a regular dino oil. I have had nothing but good luck and a happy engine while running it. I change my oil every 5K, but 7,500 miles would be no problem on that oil. Its a good quality oil, and Cummins endorses it too.

That's what i run, my last oil change was at 9500 miles with the last 4000 all highway miles. That was a little longer then i like to go but wasn't worried about it.

well thanks. i was reading some back posts and am starting to question the price he told me. seems a little high compared to what some of youll were paying. also when i hit 20k i want to switch to synthetic...is the extreme that good or should i go w/ amsoil. i have heard nothing but great things about amsoil but the endorcment by cummins is pretty tempting

I have ran Valvoline Premium Blue 10W40 since my first cummins in '99. I change every 10,000 miles and never have had a lick of trouble. Now, if my dang oil pan gaskets would just keep it in there it would help. 4 gallons and a filter cost me $35.00 at Southern Plains Cummins in OKC, OK.

It's what they use at the factory when your engine is built

Just changed it last night even - and every 4k.
Paid $10.49 for the Blue. Ran it since day 1 and have zero plans to change to something else.

It's what I use also.

Did my 1st change at 2500 miles, my second at 7500 miles and won't do my 3rd until 15,000 miles. My problem is finding a container I can cap large enough to handle 3 gallons of used motor oil.

I ran Rosmella the first couple of changes, and then switched to Valvoline Premium Blue, because a) it's Cummins 'recommended' and b) it was at my local Napa for cheaper than the Rotella was at Walmart.

I'm on my first running of Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme (synthetic) that I also got at Napa. It was $16.59 per gallon for the synthetic, which I thought was a pretty good deal - not much more than the conventional.

Now that it's getting colder, I have noticed that it seems to start a bit easier.

Ran valvoline premium blue 15w-40 since new. Oil analysis couldn't be better. I once asked a cummins tech where I buy my oil from, they refill my five gallon pail from the bulk tank, about using the synthetic and he said not worth it unless your running the truck above 60 Latitude ....ARCTIC -40F . Okay I felt like a hambone and he said it is simply to thin for normal operating temps hence the name valvoline EXTREME premium blue 5w40

I bought my first Valvoline Premium Blue from a Cummins shop in North Dakota and the guy told me he only has a few customers that use the Extreme and then only in the winter. ND gets rather chilly in the winter so if most of the diesel owners are using the standard 15W-40 it must be alright. I do remember many times the two winters I was there that my gasser wouldn't even turn over unless it had been plugged in for at least two hours and that was running 10W-40.

As for price, my local NAPA is selling it at $12.99 a gallon and the local Schuck's is selling at $10.99 I haven't seen it in the nearest WalMart (35 miles).

I run the Premium Blue as well, it's about $10 (I think a hair under) at Cummins in Tulsa...
