Used injectors

I am getting a good 5.9 block and my mechanic assures me I can use 6.7 injectors in it and the ECM will work. I am expecting a little smoke on startup but it should run well after that. He guarantees it.

I found a killer deal on used 6.7 injectors but want to have them checked before I install them. There are a couple places locally but don't know if they are good or not. Where can I get them checked out?

Ummm.....the 6.7 injectors are a totally different design than the 5.9 units.....are you thinking of swapping the 6.7's into the 5.9 head? If so it ain't gonna work.

Someone PLEASE correct if I'm missing something here. I don't want the poster to get screwed if he buys something he doesn't need!!

Thank for the reply. I have talked with several diff folks and it does fit per them. I even met a dodge service guy who says he has seen several trucks with the 6.7 ink in a 5.9 head.

Dang, that's news to me. Never heard of it but I guess anything is possible. I know the 5.9's have the hold-downs on the bodies......the 6.7's just have a round lip.....how are they held onto to head?

The 6.7 has a collar that is similar to the 5.9. The collar can be removed whereas the 5.9 is integrated into the injector.

I would appreciate if anyone here has actually had success with this

Done a little reading on the Cummins Forum about your situation......granted it was old (3-4yrs) but everything stated that the injectors will fit the 5.9 head, bit it had to be milled for the tip to protrude correctly. The story also said that the 5.9 ECM isn't up to par to fire the 6.7 injectors.....the guys who were using them in their 5.9's had the Zeus stand-alone ECM to run them.

Do a search on CF and see if you come up with anything different.....I support you wanting to do this mod but I don't want to see you grenade your engine because the setup doesn't work like you've been told.

I have read that and have read other stuff as well. It is all inconsistent. I have read you don't have to mill the injector and people who swear you cant fire the injectors from a 5.9 ecm and those that have done that with stock 5.9 ecm. It makes it very confusing. The good thing is my mechanic said he would buy my 6.7 injectors from me if I don't use them, then I would put that towards a good set of 5.9 industrial injection reman injectors

You can run the 6.7 injector with a 5.9 ECM. You can't swap the injectors from one engine to the other though.
