URGENT: Any visual way to tell the difference between a 47RE and 48RE???

Getting a new tranny put in and was told my tranny is a 48RE not a 47RE. My build date is 9/02 so I was sure it is a 47RE. I'm the second owner so maybe the first owner put in a 48RE? I'm picking up my truck this evening and want to see if my old tranny was really a 47RE or 48RE. I only ask cause the shop is charging me a little more for the 48RE that they quoted me on a 47RE.

Thanks
Eric

If you can find your options code decal, the 47RE has a sales code of "DGP" and the 48RE has a sales code of "DGB".

I can't say for sure but isn't there a part number stamped somewhere that you can check?

Well I've got both tranny codes I guess? The shop said for sure I have a 48RE as the harness is different between the 47 and 48. Here's a pic of the tranny codes:

They are blowing smoke, no differences in the harnesses between an early 47RE and 48RE. The 05 and up trucks have differences but not the 03's.

You can tell the 47 and 48 apart by looking at the tip of the input shaft. If they are basing their opinions on the external factors I would seriously question their building abilities.

Why does it matter? Wouldn't you rather have a 48RE? It's supposed to be a drop-in replacement for the 47RE from what I've heard, and they are going to warranty it, right?

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting charged for a 48 if they put in a 47! Anyway, I went back to the shop today and they proved to me, it is in fact a 48RE!!! And yes they are giving me a 100,000/3 year warranty.

Thanks to cbrahs for helping me out and getting me a build sheet!!
