Under hood pad

I was wondering if I removed the under hood pad if the Turbo diesel whistle and diesel clatter would get louder?
(Thats what Im looking for...MORE noise)
Yes I did remove the silencer ring, still not loud enough though...
I would put it back on when the cold weather returns to help with warm up.

It is pretty much just a noise blanket, so probably be louder in the cab but not much outside the vehicle.

I pulled it from the hood. There is only 12 or 13 snaps(and none broke) so if it isn't any louder, oh well it just snaps back in a minute or two.
I will let you know if it's louder later tonight.

Mine didn't come with the hood blanket, and I bought one and the clips later from the parts department.

I don't think it made any difference in sound, but I thought it gave the engine compartment a more finished look and I thought it might keep engine heat from baking the paint on the hood...

............

Install an AFE Stage 2 Air intake......and it will give you all the NOISE you will ever want to hear! It sounds like a cross between a jet engine and a Semi Truck.

I have been reading about different intakes and now I'm worried if I go with an oil type filter it might foul sensors, or the oil get sucked out of the filter and let dirt through. Does The stage two has a sealed box to keep the intake air from sucking under hood hot air?

There are plenty of good air intakes on the market. I just happen to have the AFE Stage 2 and certainly recommend it. I don't ever recall hearing of or reading about anybody having a problem with the AFE Stage 2. I recently took mine off my truck to clean the "prefilter" and the torque tube was clean as a whistle. Washed the prefilter, put it back on and it is fine. It has 7 stages of filtration besides running a prefilter. It actually cleans the intake air better than the stock airbox...........at least according to oil analysis' I had done before and after on my truck. With 5000 miles on the oil, I had 4 parts per million of silicon (dirt) in the oil on my last two oil analysis from Blackstone-Labortories. The one prior with the stock air box was 8 ppm, for what its worth. It tells me it flows more air but cleans the air better than the stock filters.

The AFE 2 has a box but it is not completely enclosed. It does have a heat shield over the top.

If noise is what you want, you can't go wrong with the AFE stage 2, imo.
