Turbo wine noise

New to the forum so hopefully I do this right. I have a 2005 QC 2500 4X4 Cummins with an auto. Brand new with 4K miles. I noticed 2 days after I installed the Edge Juice/ Attitude that it started making a turbo wine/ howl. It never used to do it before, you could just hear the turbo whistle a little bit, but now it is almost a gear wine/ howl coming from the Turbo area. Hard to explain but that is the closest I can explain it. It didn't make the noise till 2 days after the Juice/ Attitude install. There has been no difference in temperature where the truck is or any other variables that I can think of. Any help would be great.

I'ts supposed to do that. The more whine, the more boost, the more power.

Yes, the wine but it is more of a gear type sound/howl/wine. The turbo used to just wine but it is deaper now. Plus it didn't do it before which is my main concern even with the box installed. Then all of a sudden after a couple days with it on, it started. So it is something new but I just don't know if it is something to be concerned with.

you'll have to take it out to see if the noise goes away again.

Sounds like spooky hoot or first order blade pass.

If the noise is still there when you take out the box, take it to the dealer and make sure he hears it.

I think the main reason that the turbo sounds differently now is that you're making more boost with the Edge than you were stock. I notice as the air gets colder around here that my turbo will start to make a different sound that it does when the air is warmer. It's just the turbo doing it's job, and as long as you're not trying to pump 60psi out of it, I think you'll be ok.

Try tightening all of the rubber boots on the tubes that go from the turbo to the cooler and cooler to intake. Don't over tighten, but you should get 1 or 2 turns out of each. Should help some.

hard to hear it and identify where it is coming from when you are driving.... are you sure you are not hearing the presure pump working harder ? Ive been wrong b4 but isn't part of the edge juice power a result of presure? I know the EZ is a press box and I think I can hear mine work harder but then again maybe its the slightly thicker fuel, its been friggin cold latelly, not international falls cold but still.

It is not the whistle of the turbo. I can hear that separate from the noise the turbo is also making. It is something that sounds more like a wine/ gear noise but it is definitely separate from the whistle. It never used to do this, so it must have something going wrong for it to just start all of a sudden.

The simple solution, then, is to turn off or remove the Edge Juice and see if the turbo is still making the same noise. If not, I'd be willing to bet that it's the Juice causing the turbo to make more boost, which, in turn, is causing the new sound of the turbo.

I tend to think he has boost leaking out at one of the intercooler pipe junctions. I have the same problem right now. Stock boost, but when I really get on the go-pedal, I hear an additional whistle over the standard turbo noise, and I'm pretty sure it's leaking past one of those clamps. Seems worse when it's colder. I've tried tightening them to no avail, I'll probably have to undo them all and adjust the pipes a bit. I'd give that a shot zmock, assuming that turning off the edge box doesn't stop the noise...

spooky hoot is actually a resonance setup in the muffler endcaps caused by subsynchronous vibration in the turbo. It sounds like for lack of a better word, a spooky hoot. Should only happen between 1300 and 1500 and should stay relatively the same pitch.

First order blade pass is the typical turbo whine that is created as the compressor blades "pass through" the air as it spools up. (picture making a whistle with the top of a beer bottle).

Nothing changed when the Juice/ Attitude was removed and of course the dealer just said the turbos and the engines are known to getting a little louder as you put miles on the truck. So, I guess I will just not worry about it and wait till something breaks if I have to.
