Turbo wine

I have a 98 2500 Ram 24-V / Auto / 3.54 gears/ mods= Tail pipe & muffler.

I was going to the race track with my 24 foot trailer and my 63 Dodge 330 on the hitch. And the turbo hose going from the turbo to the inercooler popped off. So I pulled over and reinstalled the rubber hose. Ever since then, the turbo wine ( under the hood ) and the wine from the tail pipe, is no more. So I am thinking, I have no boost. I check the waste gate actuator , and found it to be bad. It was leaking , thus lowering the boost pressure. So I go to Dodge and install a new one. Still I do not here the turbo winning like it did befor the hose popped off. I do have 18 PSI of boost. I have been driving this truck for awile now, and the turbo wine was always loud out the tail pipe. Any ideas ????????

I think what you thought was turbo whine was air leaking past the boot that eventualy blew off. I'v had this happen a couple of times. Sometimes when they blow off it sounds like a tire blew.

Well, maybe. But I dont fell the truck has that wine noise like it did befor.

Now, if the waste gate accuator was leaking boost, Does that make the gate stay closed ? thus getting more PSI with the gate not working? Was it like having a turnbuckle on the waste gate?

quick question. On a stock 24-V, whats the norn turbo PSI ?

At 70, my truck is around 10psi. At WOT, she'll pull 21 psi.

The stock boost on your truck should have the wastegate opening at 17-20 psi. The dealer now has a tool that works great in testing the wastegate actuator and air inlet hose boots. It fits over the turbo inlet and allows the tech to charge the air inlet system by adjusting the air psi with a regulator.
