beer / wine pairing

Where do you go for food and drink advice ? I guess I go to the DTR message board.

I've been tasked with making New England Clam Chowder for Christmas Eve. There will also be New Orleans-style BBQ shrimp, probably a nice salad, french bread, salami and cheeses.

They've asked me what to bring for the holiday dinner cheer. What goes with this menu ? I was thinking Guinness stout or Anchor Steam. Any suggestions ?

For the beer, you can't go wrong with the the Guinness or Anchor Steam like you have. I would like to also reccomend a beer called Fat Tire, its an amber ale, pretty good one too.

If you are in the Houston area, any of the Saint Arnolds brews are excellent. As are all of the 3 mentioned above. After Saint Arnolds, the Fat Tire would be my choice, especially with the BBQ.

Sorry, forgot another TX beer that is pretty good, Shiner Bock. Slightly dark beer, not too hoppy, just right....

We'll be just south of San Jose, CA. In Gilroy. But I'll be road-tripping from Phoenix.

Yes sir. As of 1992. You'd think my days in Manzy would have taught me all I need to know about beers.

I lived in manzi as well. 14th floor. The only thing that place teaches you is how to sneak a keg in a refrigerator box and to get laid. I miss it

Guinness Draught, and as someone mentioned earlier, Fat Tire by New Belgium Brewing Co. That is what I have on tap right now and it is hard to beat in my opinion.

Good luck!

White wine for white meat, red for red....easy way to remember that.

Actually with the BBQ shrimp,a sweet light Rose would work, or any of the light whites.

It sounds like semi-formal
wine might be a better choice than a beer or ale.
Save those for after the meal, serve a wine with the dinner.

.... or just go straight for the rock-gut moonshine !!! By the time they finish the first drink they won't even remember that there was a dinner .
