They are more than scuffed up, there are chips and chunks missing out of them. The truck only has 1300 miles on it and I really dont want to run the turbo unbalanced for fear that it could cause other things in the other end of it to go out and get sucked into the motor and what not.

Sounds like to me something else went through the turbo. Shavings won't do that kind of damage. Did you break the drill bit or tap?.....Just wondering......Sounds weird.....

You are correct sir, 100,000 + RPMs is not a good speed to be unbalanced.

Failure can come very quickly..

Try your local Cummins shop, I just put a remanned Holset hx35 on our 2002 Sterling with an isb in it, the turbo was 860.00 out the door my cost.

As others have stated, the compressor wheel is servicable, check this site out, you may find what you are looking for, http://www.holset.co.uk/files/4-part...%20service.php

Good luck, Tim

Pull and check the Pyro just to make sure that didn't break off. I can't see that much damage from drill shavings.

This is why i went with the option to have the truck running at idle while drilling and tapping my pyro. If i wouldnt have done that i would of taken the exhause manafold off to do it.

Sorry to hear about your turbo, but look at the good side you are getting a after market one (which is better)

Lets see some pictures of your housing.
I recommend that when you tap the manifold that you also remove the intake housing and spin the compressor blades to make sure that they tubine is free.

Sounds to me that you may have had a few shavings in their that lodge themselves and just blew around the turbine.

You would be surprised what a little peice of metal can do to turbine blades.
On that same note you would be surprised at what types of debris they can handle.
Everyone will break/scuff/chip at their own level. It really is a hit and miss situation. Sorry to hear about your situation.

I have already pulled the pyro to ensure that nothing broke off of that. I will post some pics up as soon as I get a chance to take some after the new turbo is on of coarse!
