Unhappy turbo fin question

Upon removing the silencer ring I wound up scratching 3 of the turbo fins... Although not bad as scratches go.. Is this bad ? what are the effects of this?

thanks

Jamie

as long as they arent deep as it would change the balance, the paint you see on one of the blades is for balance, this turbo spins 24,000rpm so balance is critical

The scratches will be the weak points in the fins and may stress fracture now. A lot will depend on how you scratched or nicked the fins.

Nicked is a better word , just enough to remove the dirt on them and make a mark.

Should I replace it with a new one.

Sounds like a good excuse to bomb your turbo.... maybe get one of those twin turbo setups.....

the little hy might be toping somwhere along the 120k rpm range at full boost, and if you blip the throttle downshifting, you might get a little more rpm out of it as the pressures on both sides are balanced... heck, at work, on them 2 cycle emd diesels with a compressor wheel coming close to 12", they turn about 18-19k at full tilt

Turbo RPM with the EGR motor were running these days we can monitor the rpm with insite , other day I was running the ISX on the dyno making about 35 pounds of boost and turbo rpm were around 94,000 . hope that answer your rpm question.
