tuning valves

I thought someone had said I don't need the barring tool to tun the valves, is that true?

u can use the alternator nut, but i tried it when i did my 99 and it slipped the belt both directions. i paid $40 if i remember for the barring tool with shipping from cummins metropower.

I used the bolts on the harmonic balancer. if you do it this way make sure you do it really slow and don't put a lot of torque on the bolts because they could break. any other questions let me know.
