People will disagree on the order of things.

But I do believe most everyone will agree gauges is #1.

You left out transmission/clutch upgrades, and personally I would do it in a slightly different order. Good idea tho.

Re:Stage tuning guide for noobies

Jamie,
That's a great idea! I am done with stage 1. Now....Where do I go about getting a box for my '97 12V? I've been looking all over for them! ;D
Naw, but a thread dedicated to how people progressed through their mods might be a good idea in each specific generation board. I might start one in the 2nd Gen or the 12V boards.
Then let the arguments begin!

Re:Stage tuning guide for noobies

Whiff, you can't get a "box" for your 97, as it is a 12 valve, mechanically controled engine, unlike the 24 valvers which are computer controlled. Those of us who have properly valved ;D engines can mess with the computer with the fueling/boost boxes but you undervalved guys can't. You have to resort to other means.

I have an article posted on another site that was written by Ted Jennatty (Jennatty Racing Enterprises) that addresses the upgrading order for CTD engines. If you would like, I can e-mail it to anyone who would like it, or I can send it to an administrator here to be posted in the tech facts section (if that is legal, coming from another site)

Re:Stage tuning guide for noobies

Thanks, DPG.
Unfortunately, my sarcasm didn't come across clearly enough! I know Ihave a properly valved engine and was making a point to some overvalvers (no offense intended, it's not like I'm calling anyone a whiner...) that to say a box is the 2nd step is really not too correct if you have a 12V engine!
Hope that clears it up!

So my order of mods would be this:
1. GAUGES
2. New plate (nothing too big, since I'm not looking for more than 300-350 horses)
3. Intake (Scotty II, cuz it sucks.)
4. Exhaust
5. Anything else my wife will let me buy!

*Not so fast,,,,, :

So my order of mods would be this:
1. GAUGES
*When you buy them,,,,,, they come packed in a box!
2. New plate (nothing too big, since I'm not looking for more than 300-350 horses)
*When you order it,,,,,,, it comes shipped in a box
3. Intake (Scotty II, cuz it sucks.)
*Intake = Airbox,,,,,,,,,, and Scotty will send you one in a box!
4. Exhaust
*,,,,,,,, OK,,,,,,,,,, Ya got me there,,,,,,
5. Anything else my wife will let me buy!
*Once the wife finds out how much you have spent already,,,,,,,,,,, You'll be lucky to be buried in a pine box!

So see,,,,,,,,,, somewhere along the line,,,,,,,,,, you undervalvers are going to have to buy a box. ;D Even if it's the last thing you will do!

Now DeWain,,,,,, about that blackmail thing,,,,,,,,,,, 8)
For a price,,,,,,,,,, I can put in a good word for ya with Mrs.DPG,,,,,,,,, : I could even tell her that I was just playing a little joke on you by using my Admin powers and you really didn't type that.
Course,,,,,, that depends on how much Top will split with me!
