Trying out the John Deere Oil!
I`ve run it in all my diesels. Duramax, John Deere,Ford, Dodge etc. It`s good oil. The plus 50 means you can go 50 more hours on your oil. Most tractors oil is changed by the hour. I go 5000 miles on my trucks & 150 hours on tractors.
All I can say is that CI-4+ better then the older rating CI-4/SL rating. To know for sure why not look at your owners manual to see what the oil requirements are for your 2007 engine. I know the 2006 requirement is CI-4/SM or better.
...I still don't see what is so much better about CI. ...... You show me a 100k miles motor that was driven the SAME way as another 100k mile motor with the 2 diff oils, then maybe you will have proof...... Just use a good brand of oil, Rotella, Schaeffers, Amsoil.....ect. and you'll be fine. CI or CJ. Both work great. .
The difference for the 5.9 CTD is clear. I run CI-4 oil 7500 miles. I would not run CJ-4 oil for more than 3,000 if racing and/or towing reasonably heavy..... and 4-5,000 if not.
You really expect anyone to run this test for you....with their expensive trucks?
I personally have two real problems with Blackstone Oil Analysis.....
1- They try to say that as long as your TBN is above '0'... your ok. This is not correct!
2- They are expensive. For what they charge they should be giving TBN and TAN. Both can be revealing. More than several others I know and have used in my business.

You might find this thread interesting as well. I know this particular truck has had some extreme abuse, lack of maintenance etc......
But we may be starting to just now see the effects of running CJ blend oils....particularly as it relates to modified trucks.

Always have and will. Just don't think the new oil is gonna stop someone from hitting 300k
RowJ. I am not saying that your wrong about the CI because I honestly think you are correct on what you have mentioned. I just think that with regular oil change intervels of 3000 miles, you will be fine with the CJ. Now I do agree FOR SURE that if you are going above the 3000 miles mark, then yes you should put in an additive or find CI.
Problem I see, is for many (not members here) that hear CJ-4 is "backward compatible" and don't cut back on change intervals. They may be in for a surprise at 100,000 miles. It's already showing up on Cams in some cases!

For sure. I have seen the post on here with a lot of people seeing the same results while using the CJ. People NEED to be better informed on this. If they were and changed thier oil around 3000 miles, then we wouldn't be seeing these wear problems.

CI-4 is the zinc in the oil which helps lube solid lifter cams. but when it burns in the engine it is supposed to leave ash build up. also they say the zinc in the oil is supposed to harm converters DPF etc. That is why they cam out with CJ-4 oil it has very little zinc left in it. Which was formulated to use in out 6.7 dpf trucks. I know a lot of guys including me that run CI_4+ oil in our race cars for the extra zinc. more or less this was another epa mandated crap. Mopar72

This is mighty interesting....I ran Delo 400 CI4+ for a couple of years and always took uoa. My last uoa was same brand, but with the new CJ4. The zinc level is pretty close to being the same as it was in the previous formulation....
Where did you find this info? Have you compared used/virgin oil results to arrive at this conclusion?
I think if you look closely, you'll find that things you think have changed, haven't really changed all that much.

It has lots of good info...
Where do you get the oil additive to add to the CJ and how much do you add to an 11 quart system? People talk about the STP, but I still haven't found it. Where else can I get it? Would like to know for when I can no longer get CI.
Any additives that the lubricant companies have removed have been substituted by new ashless anti wear chemistry....the oils are getting better, contrary to many of the CJ4 rumors that continue to float around.
Another option might be taking a uoa with a proven brand of CJ4 and seeing how it works for you instead of adding things into your engine blindly...
