This weekend my 03 3500 would not start, and still can not get it started. Before this weekend it would not start unless I had it plugged up. A little history, Back in November I installed a air dog on it and eliminated the lift pump. About a month ago driving down the road it just shut down on me, coasted into a parking lot and checked everything out and found nothing. Got back in it and it fired right up. Tonight I checked the grid heater and got 10.3 volts on each lug at the heater, and was warm to the touch. I checked the codes and am getting a p0629. I am leaning toward a bad injector. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks for any help.

 

Any ideas, anyone. I'm getting desperate. I got to work out if town this weekend, if my truck is not running i have to take dads powerstroke.

I doubt it has anything to do with the grid heater.

How old are your batteries? Does it crank slower than normal? Can you hear the Air Dog pumping? When did you last change the fuel filter?

 

I rate your query in the same class as "Why is the sky blue?" You need to do some basic tests like fuel pressure at the high pressure pump at least, state of battery, etc. then post your query.

 

Both batteries were put in in november 2012, the truck cranks fine no slow cranking. The fuel filter came with the airdog that i put on this past november. I don't have any way of checking the fuel pressure right now. I can hear the airdog run when i cycle the key. It will run for about 45 seconds and cut off.

Could i check the injector pump by removing the fuel line from the airdog and sticking it in a jug of diesel? If it pulls fuel from the jug means the injector pump is working.

one bad injector will cause it to not start. research injector problems

Also, when did you last fill the fuel tank? Have you tried to drain some from the filter housing to check for water? Could just be bad fuel.

 

I opened the valve on bottom of the airdog and no water just fuel.

You'll have to catch it in a clear container to really see if any water is present.
