I have the same exact issue with my 1997 D2500 automatic tranny. A few months back my truck began idling rough; then I took it on a 1,000 mile round trip up to Oregon and on the way back down the I-5 freeway it suddenly dropped out of overdrive. The truck is now really slow off the line even when warm, but still shifts fine except for the fact that it will not kick to overdrive when you reach 55-60 MPH. I know it is not the TPS because I quickly swapped one from my 96 which works fine. Any Suggestions for us?
Thanks

Check the tranny temp sensor or the brake light switch.

I got my codes checked today and ended up with EGR error code on my 1997 which I am assuming is the cause of the rough idle. Also came back with trans solenoid code which will involve draining the transmission and dropping the pan to replace the solenoid.

Perhaps these are the issues you are having too.

Have you retrieved the error code history? That might be very helpful.

No way to know if you don't tell us the year of your truck.

On the RE tranny the temp sensor is internal.
Only way I of to check it is with a scanner.
