transmission not shifting out of first gear

I need some help on my trans. i have 06 3500 4x4 . 48re, 112000 miles never a problem with trans or anything else. got in the truck today and drove down road and it had a heck of a time shifting out of first. when it finaly shifted it went through the gears but wouldnt go into overdrive. when it shifted out of first it was almost redlined, i tried letin off the pedal but that didnt help any on the shift. tried shifting in manualy no luck. checked fluid full but looks a little brown. last tranny service was at 85000 filter and fluid.truck bone stock except for a cold air intake (k&n) and a 2.5 leveling kit. i work out of my truck and i really need to figure this out, thanks

hi
brown fluid means heat or slippage .
get the filter and fluid changed .
use atf+4 , i use walmart myself and have no problems 299,000 mi.
but i do have a transgo tfod-diesel shift kit in valvebody .
also do check the rear band adjustment while pan is off.
front band done from outside .
also go to autozone and have them scan it for any codes , wright them down and then clear them out .
tps also could be acting up 1

Sounds like the governor pressure solenoid or governor pressure sensor. Mine did exactly the same thing and replacing these fixed it. I replaced both at the same time so I don't know for sure which was the culprit. I've heard it's smart to replace both.

ok, changed filter and fluid and drained torque converter, refilled and drove it. shifted somewhat better but still hard to shift out of first. overdrive worked the first couple times, but now doesnt. should i replace the governor pressure sensor & solenoid along with od lockup assembly. ive been told that the first two items dont have anything to do with overdrive.

no shift out of first gear will be caused by a bad Transducer(govener pressure sensor) or a bad speed sensor in the overdrive unit.

so i should replace the governor pressure sensor & solenoid for the shift between 1 & 2. and then there is another sensor for the od, if so do you no where it is located?

my experience......30 min. fix.......you will have to drop the pan, so have fluid and a filter ready.

Patg,

Sorry I can't tell you if the gov press sensor & solenoid will fix the overdrive issue. Mine did not have the OD problem. I know it fixed my 1-2 shift problem. All I can say is try it and see. Maybe someone else can chime in on whether or not it also fixes the OD issue.

Gov pressure solenoid and sensor have nothing to do with the OD. I believe that solenoid will be located by dropping the VB.... the OD could be just bad grounds and dirty battery terminals......clean them first.
