Trans temp question????

What temp should the 48RE operate at under normal driving conditions? Towing conditions? How much will a deep pan with cooling tubes reduce the temps? Thanks.....

I commonly have 8-10K behind my truck and when I have the cruise set on the highway at 65mph or so, my temps stay right in line between 160-175* depending on the grade of if I am flat. When unloaded I stay between 150-165* on the highway under the same conditions.

Now you get yourself into a lot of stop and go traffic and it is easy to see your temps go up into the 190s and even a little over 200*. I would say that anything over 220-230* or so is not good at all.

Course, my old tranny held pretty decent temps the whole time that it lasted me before abruptly giving out at 52,000 miles and needed replacement.

With the TC locked rolling down the road:

140-160 empty depending on ambient temp

160-190 towing depending on ambient temp and load.

With the TC unlocked depending on load and ambient it can be anywhere from 160-260 degrees.

This statement is dead on. I see the exact same temps on my 48re...
