trans. question..
Hey everyone, my dad has an 05' hemi truck w/ the 5speed auto. The transmission has been acting weird. When you put it in gear, the trans takes a few seconds to actually engage. This has been happening for the last month or so. Today it did the same thing, only with a twist. As it engaged, it banged into gear. Im not talking about a little u-joint play, It was like a big neutral drop w/out any gas. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks everyone-Max
It is the torque cconverter. I had an 04 Hemi. The torque converter will drain down after sitting for a while. Mine would take about 15 seconds on the first start of the day to engage. Then the rest of the day it would stilll do it, but much quicker. And yes, it felt like a sledge hammer hitting the tranny.
IIRC, this is the 545RFE...same trans that's in the dakota behind the 4.7
There's a check ball in the cooler line to prevent TC drain back. I think thst was supposed to be a recalled issue in 03/04 trucks. Not sure about the '05 though.
