Questions on future Turbo upgrade..?

I am planning for transmission and then turbo is next..

Truck is mostly a daily driver/fun vehicle and I am looking to put a single(larger) turbo on. My question is about fuel to light it up. I have a TST-r49 and GDP-392 pump.

If I go with a large single like a silver bullet 66 or something similar in size to that turbo. Will I need a pressure box or smarty to get the turbo going or is the TST enough by itself? Are adding differnet injectors needed to run a larger turbo? I want to be sure I get all the right parts together so I am not wasting my time on a combination that will not work well?

Would a 62 or 64 turbo be a better choice if not adding injectors or additional fueling mods?

Just trying to plan ahead.. Thanks

The phat shaft 62 or superphat shaft 62 or a 71 series High Tech Turbo 62/14 would be better suited for your current mods they spool quick, little laggier then the stocker but lower egts and turbo is more efficient at higher boost levels then your stock turbo. I ran a super stock 62 by HTT and it lite really quick and made mid-upper 40psi range but with your mods you might see 40s. My buddy has a phat shaft 62 and it is laggier then my HTT was but made over 50psi with similiar mods. The silver 66 you wouldnt be able to get it spooled with your mods.

Creed,

Thanks for the info.. Would a smarty be enough for a large single or is larger injectors the right way to spin them up? This is the 1st turbo vehicle I have ever had and I just want to be doing the right combo if I was to put a large turbo on. Does putting a larger turbo on affect mileage better/worse if driven sensibly? I get decent mileage when driven smart and am also wondering how a large single will affect this?

If you put a silver bullet on and use the tst for fueling, I would have it flashed with the twins program. The twins program is obviously for twins and big singles. I don't have the twins program, but after stacking the tst onto my programmer I didn't need it. My Silver Bullet will make about 28lbs with my programmer max, but with the tst on it fuels like mad and will hit 50+ easy.

How was you mileage before and after the turbo? I understand if any combo driven hard mileage will suffer. I am more curious if you drive with a lite foot is it better or worse than the stock turbo?

I was thinking of doing something similar to you. I want to add the smarty when I do the turbo. Fueling addition plus the other neat items it will add.

Do you have a stock tranny? I am waiting until after doing tranny to add turbo.

Thanks, Jeff

smarty will spool my turbo just fine by itself. i run it to 50psi, lag is acceptable, egt's are really good.

I have a stock tranny yes, but I have a manual with an upgraded South Bend Clutch.

Mileage hasn't been too different at all. I drive pretty conservatively about 98% of the time, so I'm usually always over 21-22+. That's probably a 60/40 highway/city driving time.

The smarty is pretty aggressive for the HO engines, so you can try that first and see how it spools the charger.

If you get a 66 I would do some bigger injectors with it.

I'd stay small ( 62/13 ) if I were you. Any bigger and the spooling is a problem. I have dual CP3's and 100hp injectors and I have a heck of a time getting my 64/14 spooled. I'm actually over fueling using the Smarty and the smoke is uncontrollable until the turbo lights.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great downloader... smarty worked great on my truck when it was pretty much stock but, now that I've done a few thing... I'm not having the same luck.

There's a fine line to get it all working right and it's a very hard line to find !
