Torque Converter unlocking

If im locked up in OD and I mash the pedal the TC kicks out and the tranny shifts down. I thought maybe that was just how the 48RE is but today I was going down the interstate about 73 with the cruise on and came upon some slower traffic so I kicked off the cruise and dropped down to about 65 until I could get clear of the slower cars. Once clear I hit resume on the cruise and the tc unlocked, tranny kicked down and just stayed there for a quite few seconds. It didnt seem like it was going to lock back up so I shut off the cruise and took over the pedal. Then it locked up so I got it back up to speed and put the cruise on. This tranny just seems way different then the 47rh in my 95 and the 47re in my 96. Is the TC going or is this just normal behavior for this 48re?

My '05 will kick down like that when under load, but not at 65mph unless I'm towing my fiver (big load)

Yeh it will do it pretty much every time I mash the go pedal down hard while in lock up. I dont know if the TC is getting weak or if there is something going on with the a valve body or something. Ive read there are some simple upgrades you can do to the tranny but no specific details on what?

Mine has done that since new, drives me nuts because it feels like there is enough Torque to not have to kick down. I wonder if it's a safety feature to guard against high EGT's, like the computer is set too sensitive to possible lugging conditions.

was driving home last night and tried to reproduce this. I had to basically slam the pedal down in order for it to kick to 3rd.. if I more gradually increased pedal pressure, it just kept it in 4th.. locked up..
