T-Case problems

What would cause my transfer case to not shift into 4wd (electronic shift)? I was backing up a trailer this evening in some slick stuff and went to put it into 4wd and all i got was the light blinking forever. I turned the truck on and off a few times and it finally shifted. Same thing with getting it out of 4wd.

Were you moving? Unless you were trying to put it in low range, they like to be moving to lock into 4high.

I tried moving (i couldnt move very far cause id just start spinning), i tried putting it in 4lo. When i finally got out of the situation it was just as much a pain to get out of 4wd as it was to get in. When i got home though (actually after i started this thread and was leaving the house again), i tried it again and it popped right into 4wd so i dont know.

My experience with electronic shift was moving was very important. For 4 low coast at less than 5 mph while neutral and it will shift right in and out

I work at NPG , and what I have seen is that the shift motor sucks!! They throw out about 20% of the motors because they don't work right. That is why I got the lever on the floor. The problem isn't gust Dodges it all the cases we make. I think it's just another case of the lowest bidder wins. Jeff

I have a manual transfer case, and find that it works fine. Having worked in manufacturing it's obvious what they'll do for raising prices and cutting costs, which is adding more cheap, failure prone electronics.

I really wish i had the manual lever but the dealership was lacking in that department. Hmmm, i wonder how hard it would be to swap. I have no problem cutting a hole in the floor to fit the lever.

Is it possible to switch to a manual lever?

I am reopening this thread in hopes of finding out what it would take to convert the electrionic shift transfer case to a manual lever one. I had trouble last weekend shifting into low range, whether stoppped or rolling 5 mph in neutral. Does anyone know if this could be done?

Iwas thinking about this as well, i have removed the litte tray where the shifter would be on mine acouple of weeks ago and there some bolts that look like they hold down a plastic or metal cover. my guess is all you would need would be the linkage and lever assembly, but i am not sure about this, thats just what it looks like.

Someone give us electronic shifter guys some help!!!

Thanks Jeff for looking into this, I'm sure us electronic guys will be very interested in hearing what you find. I wonder if a mechanic at the dealership would know?

Well I went to the assm. line and talked to some of the guys there. It they said you would be better off getting a man. shift case. The big problem is that you would have to change the shift posioner , because the shafts are different, as well as how the shaft is sealed is different. I also talked to a guy in the test garage, he said you need to be stopped and in nutral to put it in 4 lo. other than that you should be able to shift in 4h at any speed(he thinks its below70 or 80) I hope this sheads some light on what you are looking for. Jeff

So what you are saying Jeff is that I would need to replace the entire transfer case with a manual shift one in order to make it work?

Plus you would need to rig up the shifter.
