Strange P Codes
Strange P Codes
Hey All,
I have the following codes showing up on my Edge J/A P0513 and P1222. After a search I came up with these two items. They seem like insignificant codes but I thought I would check here first before I just dismiss them. It is kinda weird when the codes popped I was on the freeway scooting along about 70 when my grid heater light came on. I had been driving for about an hour with the ambient temperature in the 80's. No hiccups or studders just the idiot light, which has cleared after a couple of starts.
If anyone has ANY ideas let me know.
TIA

Codes P1222 and P1223, the grid heater or wait to start light flashing & the warning dings from the dash is a new feature in the Chrysler firmware which came out mid 2011 or so.
To have this feature you've had your truck's ECM flashed by a dealer or by an aftermarket programmer in the last year, or EFI Live.
It looks like the Smarty 5.9L common rail programs also incorporated this feature in Feb 2012.
There are ton's of links on this issue:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=p1222
If you read the Chrysler TSB, the new firmware feature is monitoring fuel system rail pressure extremely closely.
Some have mentioned that the reason for this feature is to prevent an engine meltdown if an injector hangs open or something like that.
It gives the driver an immediate warning: WTS light flashing, 10 dings, engine derate.
I don't think this feature is going to go away and many guys have found fuel system or injector problems after the codes come up.
A rail gauge would help diagnose if you do have a fuel system issue.

I had to pull the Edge out as well. Anyway I get back home clear the codes and the next morning start the truck and it doesn't want to start. Two cranks and it fires up but running RUFF pops a code for injector bank 1 circuit open. I shut it down and double check everything when I push the injector bank connection together I hear the "click". It's been a couple days now and everything has been fine. I already prepped the boss/wife that new injectors may be needed.
So recommendations I see here on the site are pretty much go with NEW stock injectors. I tow a pretty heavy toyhauler 5th wheel a lot, I am not racing except for the occasional flogging. Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

OK I am getting the P1222 code when I am off the gas and coming down a steep grade near my house. It does it pretty regularly only on this grade. Truck doesn't go to limp mode. I know the code is for excessive return, doesn't it make sense that there would by excessive return coasting down hill at 70??
