Cranked the truck this afternoon. Got a zero display on my instrument panel. Nothing. ABS, Brake, and check engine light comes on, along with a ccd on the overhead computer and a buss failure(don't remember exact termology) on the odometer. Checked codes and got 1694, 1693, and 1687 on pcu and 1693 and 1698 on the ecu. Runs normal, no indication of problems.
Got home and disconnected the negative terminals. Got a pcu 1693 and a ecu 1698. Dash display is normal. Overhead display is normal.
Any ideas?

Check your starter contacts, and if OK then clean the grounds from the battery to the engine, frame, and body. Most often it will be starter solenoid terminals arcing and creating a pulse that confuses the system and errors out the instrument processor. Replace the OEM contacts with the ones from www.fostertruck.com They are much less expensive and will last many times longer than the OEM version.

 

Check the plugs real good that are in the middle of the cowel. There are two of them that plug in the engine. I lost charge and the next morning had no dash. Finally found the one plug was not latched good then all was well. Made a lot of the same codes, engine ran great.

 

It must have just been a glitch (AKA gremlin). After starting a couple of times, all but two of the codes cleared out and everything works fine. Put a scan tool an and cleared the last two. Everything checks OK.
Just one of those things.
