Strange Noise

Oh, the hard to diagnosis Noise.

Actually, I have this "Clunk" comming from the rear under the following condition's;

Movingin slowly, on and off the gas, the clunk occurs when the driveline is unloaded.

Upshifting, Auto, 1st - 2nd clunk, drive line loaded.

Coasting, Clunk, Driveline Loaded, Unloaded.

Now I think that it a loose u-joint, but I have not checked, (Manualy tried to twist the drive shaft in park to check for Play.

Truck has 1800 Miles, has done Light Towing (1200 Pounds Max). But I heard the Noise before the Towing.

It's not getting worse. But it is noticable.

So,
When I check the Drive Shaft to see if it twists, should it move at all? If so, how Much?

How can I check the rear diff?

Any Ideas? Or is it just Normal?

3.73, Auto, Limited Slip.

Stealth.

Check your carrier bearing! When mine went out it was a pretty hard one to find!! As far as your u-joints go you shouldnt have play at all! Sometimes they are hard to find by hand but what you can do is drive it 4 a while and work the driveline pretty ruff such as a bunch of stop and go where you are upshifting and down shifting and feel all the U joints most of the time the one that is bad will be a lot hotter than the others!

Hope this helps!

Carrier bearing or center bearing!

It is halfway down the drive line mounted to the truck with 2 bolts and the driveshaft goes through it. Almost in the middle between the tranny tailshaft and the front of the pinion!
