Strange noise at start up??

My 97 3500 CTD 4x4 has an intermentant noise at start up. It seems to be
coming from underneath the truck and sounds like some sort of grinding. It
lasts for about 5-6 seconds then goes away. It does not do it all the time.
As a matter of fact it has only done it 3 times in the last 2 weeks. It is
an automatic. Other than that noise I have no other problems.

Any ideas on what it might be??

Thanks in advance

Glen
Starter drive may not be disengageing right.
I've seen them hang up on tractors before.
You can take starter off and lube the starter shaft ( lightly ) with grease or spray with WD-40 ect

: Eddie : 8)
