If you havent already heard this, if it sounds kinda like a flat tire then check your thermostate. Not sure why it makes that noise, but it can.

Re:Strange cab noise

thermostat prolem is aTSB and I believe it is a cavitation type problem. Get new T-stat and the noise should go away. Check the TSB's first. They give you some more specifics on rpm's or how much of a load or how much of an incline.Sorry about this post but my wife is talking to me in one ear and I am seeing double from being a bit sleepy. good luck

Re:Strange cab noise metalic wobly type

OK I also have a strange high pitched wobly almost metalic type noise that seems to be coming from the drivers side suspension as near as I can tell. It definetly coresponds to bumps in the road. I took it into the dealer after I noticed it and they of course found nothing wrong Now it so happens the first time I really noticed this noise I was pulling this guy out of a mud pit and was in four wheel low and heard a sharp crack from the front end. I have had no adverse affects from this that I know about but would be really curious to know if anyone could give me guidance on this . By the way the dealer heard the noise but could find nothing wrong.

Re:Strange cab noise

Guys, I am pretty sure mine is not the t-stat. you can only hear it when you are going down the road. Also a friend of mine road in my truck last weekend and he has a 2001 gasser and he noticed the noise and said his truck makes the same sound. He has asked the dealer and they said they have never had any probs with such a noise in the fullsize trucks.

Well while we are playing name that noise-- I get a distinct click noise every couple of miles that seems to be coming from the drivers windshield pillar between window and windshield. sounds kinda like an electic switch being clicked on or off-- strange!

When you hear the click, is your A/C or defrost on? I have a similar noise that I believe is the A/C compressor engaging and disengaging. I only hear it when the defrost or A/C is on.

Re:Strange cab noise

I had a noise until Friday that started Monday. I thought it was a rear bearing or a brake caliper. Sounded a little like a what you described, but mine sounded more like a set of old snow tires on a dry road. It was real loud at 65 and 50. Anyway, it was the middle universal joint on the drive shaft.
Changed them all out. The middle one was missing some its guts. I also found a lead in the axle seal on the left rear. My rear brake was soaked with gear oil. Fixed that and cleaned it all up. Working good now.

If you jack you truck up at the rear and turn the rear wheel back and forth and hear a metal noise, check you U-joints.
I put back ones that can be lubed. The ones I took off could not be lubed. My truck has 115k on it.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Re:Strange cab noise

it could be, i know I haven't had the AC on but maybe the defrost, it really sounds higher though like it is coming from the middle of the pillar, but maybe the sound is reflecting from the glass!

Not to change the subject but I must comment on this. The u-joints that cannot be lubed are much better than the greasable ones. Reason is the greasable have ONE seal blocking out foreign material. Non-greasable has THREE seals to keep out junk and keep grease in. Put a good quality synthetic grease in non-greasable u-joints before installing them and they will out last greasable.
Now back to the topic. ;D

OK. This may be a long shot here but what you just described (as a turkey) sounds a spot weld located under the dash on the drivers left side has popped loose. I know that is way off what you expected to hear but I read of this problem a while ago and I cant remember what web site it was on. I even saw some pictures of where the weld was. I think it was behind the plastic just left of the drivers legs under the dash. If I was you I would post a new topic saying that you hear a turkey gobble noise under the dash, on this site and other web sites. I bet you get a better response than I just tried to describe.

Re:Strange cab noise

Have you had your windshield replaced lately? It could be the window against the A piliar. Just a thought!
