Stinky Exhaust

Hope everyone here had a great Christmas...

My 03 3500 TCD has been having an unburnt diesel smell on shut down. 124K, All stock parts.

Any ideas as to what to check first??

You all have a safe new years!!!!

I have no idea, but I can guess!

Diesels are compression engines and as such need to shut off fuel to stop. I would guess either the fuel shut off is leaking a bit, (do the injectors just remain closed? Then an injector would be leaking) or you have a fuel leak somewhere and you are just smelling it after the truck has run and been pumping fuel.

How does your oil analysis look? That would quickly show you fuel in your oil.

You probably have a fuel leak somewhere. Do you notice any wet specs on your tailgate?

rotella made my truck smell like diesel for a long time for some reason. changed to delvac now its fine. i would check for fuel leaks as well maybe the vent on your gascap is causing the smell?
