Still running warm, what to try next?

I posted a few weeks back about my truck running hotter now than it did 6 months ago. I changed the air filter element to a Napa Gold filter, added about 2/3 a gallon of coolant to top of the reservoir, have checked all fluids and still have the issue.

When I'm saying running hotter, I mean that previously the needle never went past 200-205 on the stock temp gauge when towing and now it never goes below 205-210 when towing.

The only other thing I was wondering, could it be the fuel additive I'm running. I have been adding a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of 16 ounces of silver power service and 16 ounces of MMO. Could this be making the engine temps run hot? I just eliminated the additive as of yesterday to see, but what do ya'll think?

Everything else in the truck is stock except tires, 18X9 wheels with 325-65-18 ProComp Xtreme All Terrains.

Thanks

Jason

I am not saying I know for sure, but I have seen this conversation on serveral boards and the overall consensus was "No". The fuel additive should not be increasing your temps.

she is working harder with those taller tires. you have changed the final driver ratio, which is like going from 4:10's to 3:54's

Could the tires really be causing this?

I understand that the drive ratio may have changed, but would that cause the engine temps to run hotter?

I figure a stock truck pulling a 16K work trailer would certainly cause more 'engine work' than my bigger tires and a 7K travel trailer. I guess I'm not seeing the correlation of the tires and engine temp.

Thanks for the opinions!! Any other advice, suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

Have you cleaned your radiators? You may have a lot of dirt buildup. What were the outside temps when you were towing? You state it's higher that 6 months ago, wasn't that winter? Do you now have the AC on?

I have been towing with this set up since May,

and didn't have any issues until recently. I have cleaned the radiators well and replaced my air filter. Checked and added coolant as necessary. I also am comparing the temps now to temps from last summer when I was towing in the same type of outdoor temperature

I have knoticed that the cooling fan on my 05 is a little slow to engaging. I knoticed this while watching the ac high side pressue was rising and the temp also. My truck will do the same thing and did not do it new. I assume and would not be supprised if it is caused by a slower responding thermostat and cooling fan clutch.

Have you changed the type of lubricants you are using anywhere in the truck just prior to the "problem". Another point is that the daytime temperatures seem to be above average in most of the states this year according to the news. Of course like Bill Engvall says, "...write it down, it's hot in August!!!!..."

I had changed the oil prior to the first time I noticed,

this problem. But I use the same Valvoline in the blue bottle with the Cummins emblem that I have used before. I check the oil level regularly and it always is in the 'safe' range.

Thanks for the reply.

I just added larger tires to my truck. Going from stock 265's to 35" and my egts are higher. And I'm talking 200degrees higher. This is gonna make you run a bit hotter. I wouldn't worry. I watch my digital trans temp go from 185 up to 212-214 in hot weather. And it goes back and forth and that's not towing anything. I'd say it's normal, especially with larger rubber.
