Some winter ??
Some winter ??
Hello all,
I'm new to this site and I have a few questions. I have a 04.5 auto, and live in nothern wisconsin.
1) I have the choice of putting straight #2 or mixing it myself, If I run the white bottle of power service. How cold can I run straight #2. The bottle says something like -20?? I'm looking for actual experance with this.
2) winter fronts, Do I actualy want to cover up the intercooler of just the radiator.
Thanks for the help.
Rick

You're probably better off blending it rather than running #2 and hoping you don't have trouble. These trucks have fuel heaters on 'em, but they only help from the fuel cansiter onwards, don't do anything for the fuel in the line. You should be able to buy it pre-blended at a truckstop somewhere. I always use the PS White, never had any trouble. As far as the winter fronts, you can cover up the intercooler too, unless you're planning on outdoor dyno runs in the winter time. Putting something between the intercooler and the radiator will still kill the airflo through the cooler, as it's got no place to go.
04 Silver Ram, welcome aboard.
It won't hurt to run some additive, but I would hazard a Wild Guess that each and every fuel supplier/station up in your neck of the woods will get properly blended fuel from their respective fuel distributors to sell to customers in the winter months. Gelling fuel in the winter isn't a recent development; and its a matter of standard operating procedure to deal with it. They may already be selling blended fuel up there right now.
I've never worried about it during my trips up north in MI.
Now if you have a 100 gallon aux tank and fill up in LA and make a run north and have that original fuel remaining in the tank - that fuel may gel in cold weather - stopping your progress. If thats your concern, I'd just fill up the tank(s) with local fuel/drive for 30 minutes and not worry about it.
