front drive shaft is it a needle zerk
Zerk
Front drive shaft. It's in the middle u joint. Lay on the ground with your head facing the passenger side of the truck and your feet sticking out the drivers side. (also before you do this jack up the drivers side tire so you can turn the drive shaft. Rotate the drive shaft till you see a spot that looks like it was drilled into. Mine had paint right over it so I had to scrape it a bit to actually find the ball dentent in the middle. Once you have this you need to get a needle attachement for your gun and then pump twice. I do it every 10,000 miles as it's a pain to get at, sometimes the grease goes in, sometimes it dosn't. I believe the hole is in the middle Cardel joint. It actually puts grease into both u joints back there, as well as lube the joint. You'll find it. That little diagram on the hood is exactly where it's at, but it is hard to find, especially if there's paint, or road grime over it. I can try an dget a picture later.
I had my 05 4x4 6 spd dually into the dealers today. I couldn't find the grease point, even with scratching around looking for it. My owners manual said that there aren't any grease points, yet I have the sticker under the hood reminding me to grease the front axle. The mechanic checked and said that there is not a grease point in this location. This truck was manufactured in early November 04.

Ok the picture ain't all that great, but then again the camera was 4 inches from it. The zerk isn't on the actuall u-joint, but in the CV part of it. So it's behind the middle u joint. You can see it in the picture and where the grease is from (couldn't clean it that much so hard to get at) Mine was painted over factory and when I scratched it with a screw driver it was shiny and I found the little metal ball in the center. It looks like they drilled into it with a drill, then put a ball in the middle, that's it. I pressed on the ball first with a needle pick to free it, then put the grease in.
Easy way is to jack up the drivers side wheel and turn the drive shaft till you find it. Not sure what years they had them on, but it's in there, just very sneaky (good one DC)
Picture is in my gallery pending approval.
