Upper Ball Joint Zerk

Being as I have a Dana 60 axle, the ball joints are inverted with the studs pointing upward and zerks downward. The 90 degree configurated upper ball joint zerk hits the u-joint yoke. I don't want to have to fuss with installing the zerk every time I lube it then plugging it with a plug when I am done. What fitting is available that I can leave in place and won't be in the way?

You can just put the regular zerk fitting in and it won't hit. You will just have to get a fitting for your grease gun that slides on from the side of the zerk. Like this one.

Hi KHoffman, thanks for your reply. That's a nice grease gun fitting, I can see where it would be handy in tight spots. However, I can easily get my grease gun in there but the upper zerk on my ball joint is too big to work in unison with the spinning axle joint. Any more ideas?

the plug is the only way to go, unfortunatly. I just finished my ball joints, although i am not sure as to why your dana 60 has inverted ball joints, as mine is a dana 60, and the ball joints are the opposite. However, instead of the top joint giving clearence issues, my bottom one does. So, i too have to go the plug, 90 deg. fitting swap. For how many times you actually have to take it out, i think is a much better option than the non greasable.

Get rid of the 90 degree elbo and just use the zerk. That how mine are. Maybe I could get a pic for you tomorrow.

You are like me 02ctd4now, in a situation where a plug could be a solution and as you say, I have only seen diagrams of the Dana 60 in the 'studs down' formation but my 'studs up' is the way it came from the factory. Okay, I'm with you now KHoffman. I suddenly understand what you were trying to tell me earlier .......use a straight zerk and the special grease gun fitting! Thanks everyone!
