Smoke on stock 600 with auto?>
Alrighty, Heres my deal, If i go runnin for a while around 55-60, and then smoosh her down shell smoke, which is understood if she wont downshift and shes locked in, Im sayin noticable but not like holy cow. But enough to leave a good 50ft bit . But once in a while, Say your going down a highway and slow down and go onto on onramp to the interstate ( seen it most in this situation but in a couple more) and i take off,, not mashing it to the floor but giving it a bit of go, , I can almost blacken out an intersection. Now im not talkin like all the people puttin out 500hp and what not. But i mean its seems pretty bad, , wich i could get a picture for you all so you kkne what i was talkin about . Anyway does this seem "normal" Its a diesel and i know they smoke but i thought the point of these new engines was to not do that? and being an auto i dont think i can really "lug" the engine, Of course ive never watched to see if im in overdrive by the time it does it or not. ITs so random that its hard to expect to tell you the truth, I drive the same way every day on the same route and its only done it maybe 10 times in the 8k that ive been driving ( well that i saw anyway)
Anyone know how i cause it to do it? its kinda fun haha

My 99 smoked alot but it was modified. My 2005 610 doesn't smoke, yet. I have the nv5600 though. If yours is stock, I would say that its not normal.
Maybe more infor will help.
What elevation and ambient temperatures are you at? Do you get white smoke at startup, if so, what temps? How is your fuel economy?

my 600 smoked stock. sometimes it would be a little bit, sometimes it would do as you said, and black out an intersection. the smoke amount is different each time

See thats what ive been trying to figure out, Fuel eco is spectacular,, I wish not to discuss as i may jinx it, had what may be an all time high tonight though, Unless the computer got stupid,, never been more than .7 off of hand calc and that still puts me over hte 20 mark
elevation, meh whatever northern iowa is, And the temps have ranged from 80+ to 20s only thing ive been able to think is like if im just driving, i have to hve gone a good range, 20-30 miles and then do it for it to smoke again, SO i have to wonder if the computer is that " stupid" to not reallize that and just give it the fuel causing the smoke

My truck does the same thing. If I pull into traffic or pass someone the truck puts out a lot (at least I think it's a lot) of black smoke. Sometimes at highway speeds if I floor it to pass another vehicle I will leave a trail of black smoke. I have asked about this before and have been told it is normal.

My 04.5 600 would not make black smoke no matter how hard I tried, even with air intake and exhaust upgrade. I can make it smoke now with the Juice/Attitude, but even then only until the turbo spools up.
May have something to do with your elevation, since I'm at sea level, but most posts I have seen on 600s just do not produce black smoke stock. Maybe you have a misbehaving wastegate solenoid, that could potentially make it smoke more than normal. I have seen posts on the selonoid sticking. Just something to have checked.

Mine smokes about the same when I accelerate hard. It seems to smoke about the same with and without the EZ. I am guessing that it is normal. Pulls like a train.
I just got back from a 1000 mile trip not pulling, and at mostly 75 mph I was able to get a hand calculated 19.94 mpg with the EZ.

I've noticed that it seems mostly related to the fact of soot build up in the exhaust system. I mostly drive city miles with occasional highway jaunts. Towing is less frequent than I'd like. Anyway if I mash it after a few days of just normal commute miles smoke pours out the rear.

I have had this happen when I pull into rest areas and leave. MY EGT guage will drop from 650-700 down below 300 in just a few seconds. I usually let it idle for a minute, then when I leave the rest area it'll blow black smoke heading back out to the interstate. The engine temp will also drop from 188-190 down to 170-180. It will happen as I am about half throttle or better trying to get up to speed on a short onramp.
My opinion, is that the slight cooldown is causing it. I think the computer is adding fuel to compensate for the engine cooling. I can still blow smoke when I throttle it to pass someone at normal operating temps, but nowhere near as bad.
I think it's normal regardless, it's just the CTD's reaction to quickly changing engine temps.

driving around normal though it doesn't smoke at all.
