smoke at sea level and no haze at elevation stock truck oposite

So since no one seemed to have any idea with my original post two months ago....

So i removed all the smarty programing, I am now running the stock turbo, stock intake horn, ATS ex manifold 4" exhaust. same symptoms as above.
85000 miles dealership buddy is the diesel tech and he acknowledged that its smoking when loaded up but he said there aren't any codes, idle is smooth at 725-750 rpm

at sea level it will puff black smoke off the line and can load up with a dull haze but at 3500-4000+ ft elevation it runs clean. what gives is it the MAP sensor or something? this is the total opposite of what it did for the first 80k miles any ideas appreciated..... FP is good, Rail pressure is consistent and normal

Below is a copy of my old post
===================================
this one has me scratching my head. my truck has always puffed a little black smoke at higher altitudes especially 6k-8k ft + and towing.

truck is 03 triple nickle
smarty 4.11 mild TQ management aftermarket turbo program 4.11BD 2.11B sounds like it but i could be wrong
HTT62/12
CFM+ intake
AFE stage 2 intake.

4" pipe

in-tank fuel pump

So what has me stumped is at sea level my truck if i roll into it at low rpms will smoke like a banshee til she lights. yet at 7k ft+ with a trailer i roll into the trottle or lug it down and she barely puffs a light haze not much different then stock with no programmer. this is the opposite of what it used to do with the same program. last year. i havent changed anything. the truck used to at sea level put out a light puff at low rpms with a load (sometimes heavier if i rolled into it ) and then clean up rather quickly minimal smoke but at higher altitudes (less O2) it would puff and haze a little when i got in to it. overlall boost at higher altitude is still 35 psi WOT and at sea level 38 WOT so nothing there has changed just the low boost fueling raised an eyebrow since it is counter to what any of my previous diesels or this one for that matter have consistently done to me when towing at high altitudes

am i missing something do i have a sensor bitting the dust mildly

Nice lookin Rig! I cant say for sure why it would smoke at sea level and not at altitude. I just moved to denver area from San Diego, and had the opposite effect. However, I did do a muffler delete two weeks ago and my truck does not puff nearly as much black smoke as it did with the muffler on. figure because of the free flow exhaust.

Sorry I didnt help.

Well, don't hold me to this, but is it possible that the Manifold pressure sensor is to blame?? Inacurate readings could produce these symptoms...or the IAT sensor? (Intake air temp sensor)

interesting thats what im thinking. I should also add that WOT there is not haze or smoke. as well mileage is unchanged. just my bumper is black all the time now. it's defiantely effected by temperature, when temps are over 70* the smoke is far more pronounced, its still there at lower temps but its still noticible

Clean the MAP sensor in the intake and see how it does.

just checked the ohms on the IAT sensor looks like its a little out of spec.

IAT was pushing 25k ohms at 75 * and 22k ohms at 80* 12k ohms at 120*

Pulled them both a few minutes ago and they are both a "little" sooted up....

thank you guys. i found an article on Genos that covered the IAT and the MAP getting sooted up by exhaust brakes. I'm hoping this is probably the culprit i'll know tonight on my way home if it clenas up its attitude

so far so good, when temps are increased the IAT seems to still be throwing slightly skewed ohm numbers but its definatley cleaner and closer to spec.

smoke is diminished significantly even with the HTB2 back on the truck and the stock program.....even with the smarty fired back up. 411 211a program installed minimal smoke. i'll giver her a day or two then i'll put the 411 211b or311b program back on and see what i get but i'm going back to what worked and then working my way back up

still does it some, i went up to 7000 ft this morning from sea level to meet with a customer and noticed similar symptoms, once over 3000 ft the smoke off the lines diminished significantly compared to what it was at sea level well i'll keep tinkering somewhere i'll find what it is
