Rough Idle, White Smoke?

I have owned my truck since June 6 and had never had any startup, idle, or smoke concerns from day one. Recently I have started my truck a couple of times and it had idled really roughly and choppily, and particularly the time today--it blew gobs of white smoke, and it lasts for about 20 seconds is all, and everything is fine. Weather was in 50s every time its done it and when the truck had been sitting there for 24 hours or more. Doesnt do it when it has been ran real recently then restarted. Have been running good fuel from source I always go to, and Diesel Kleen, oil, filters, etc, are all in good shape. Other than this truck is A OK. Any ideas on what is occurring here?

Did you take it in and get the TSB performed on it? The flash is supposed to reduce white smoke on start-up as well as improve mileage.

I am going to have it done this week, but I know it takes care of white smoke but the rough idle is what concerns me! Anyone else?

I have had this a few times. It only hapens when its been sitting a while, like you said over 24 hours. I asked a knolagable cummins tech and he said it is normal for that to happen once in a while on these new trucks. He said something about it resetting the injection timing and dropping to full retard or advanced(I cant remember wich enymore) till it figures out where to set it. He said the older trucks dident have adustable timing and there for ran the same every time you started them. I think if I remember corectly he said that it retards the timing way back and that is what causes the smoke and real lousy idle. He said it cant burn all the fuel because it is retarded so much. He said there is nothing that can be done, or at least there wasent back when I talked to him abought it. I dont know how acurate this is but it made sence to me at the time. He seemed to know his stuff.
