Unhappy removing rear spring spacers

Have any of you guys lowered your rearends by taking the spacers out from under the spring pack and putting them on top? If so how did it work out?? Can you tell any difference in handling or is it easier to hook up the goosneck? I pull GNs all the time and this truck is so much higer than the ford was

I did it to my 04 DRW to make it more easy to mount the truck camper. Right off the bat I had to add air bags. The axle stops get to close and the axle bottoms out real easy. I been a wrench for 25 yrs and I swear that I will not be able to get the calipers off for a brake job. Other people on the board say you can get them off. Other then that the truck feels fine.

Truck seems to ride fine don't know about the brake calipers though. Really made the trailer easier to level out, but I do miss the rake a bit.

Did mine around 1500 miles for towing.12000lb trailer w/ 2900lb pin weight. Lowered it 1&1/4''. A brake job might be a pain don't know. I have bottomed out on the helper springs but only on rough roads. Not even sure if filpping them makes any difference. Retorque after about 50 miles & check again after another 100 or so.

spacers

i did my 05 drw in december

i removed two of them leaving one

i have noticed absolutely no difference in the truck other than the way it sits

it tows the fiver just fine. no reason to have the rear of this truck so high

i didn't measure the height before and after but i am guessing i lost two inches at the tailgate

The caliper comes off with the loosened bolt still in the slider.

Only took one off my plates off and placed it on top. No change in drivability and now I can climb in without a ladder. You may wish to use a C clamp to keep the leaf springs lined up ,my slipped and they're a booger to line back up.

I'm glad someone brought this up. The neck of my trailer is to close to the tailgate and I notice that when hooking up I have to raise it about 3" above the ball to clear the tailgate with backing under, or coming out.

I done it and put the plates on top. Works good, no difference I can tell. I can see where it might bottom though.

The first owner put airbags on mine (I would have done it anyway) so I'm seriously thinking about taking out the bottom overloads on my dually. The bags will make up for the overloads and I think it will ride better. BTW, there are extended g-neck ***** so you don't have to raise the neck so high for hitching but they have a lighter load rating. Craig

I moved the spacers on the rear springs to the top so I could lower the truck down in the rear the first week I had it. No problems at all and it did lower the rear down over an inch so I could pull the dump trailer with my hitch I already had.

spring spacers

You put them on top of springs to take up the length of the U bolts. Otherwise you have to get new U bolts

i did mine strictly for looks as i wanted a level truck without lifting anything. i like it just fine. 3 of the 4 spring pack bolts on mine were a super pita to remove [stupid round head bolts ]

one thing i have noticed though, is that the rear brakes seem to work harder now [can nearly lock them under harder braking] but i don't see a load proportion valve anywhere in the rear???? [although i like the brake feedback/feel with higher rear brake effort]
