Removing spring spacers with air bags

I have a 04 QC 4x4 long box, stock, except for air bags. My trailer rides a little too high in the front and is also a little too close to the bed rails. I would like to remove the two spacers under the springs (as in Klenger method) but I am wondering what kind of problems this will create with the air bags in place. I would prefer to keep the air bags as I do have a little sag when hooked up.

If anyone has any experience with this I would to hear.

air bag question

I just want to clear up my question. I think my problem hasn't been addressed yet. That is, I already have air bags but if I go ahead and remove the spacers to lower the truck I may compress the bags below their specs. I phoned Firestone and they said the bag had to be inflated to have 6 or 7 inches minimum. I already am at that distance so if I remove the spacers will the bags compress under 6 inches and then fail.

where are your airbags located in the truck?

If your bags have the mounting brackets on the frame and on top of the axle,(above the u-bolts), then takin out the spacers under the leaf springs will not change the distance between the top of the spring and the frame, (where the bags are). all you are doin is bringing the axle up closer to the bottom of the spring.

your airbags should not be interupted or changed at all.

However if your bags mount to the frame and the axle itself (not the top of the spring) then u will be compressing the airbag length. in which case u will have to move to frame mount up higher on the frame somehow.

Thanks. I just looked again and they are mounted on top of the axle so I guess I will have to find a find to move the top bracket up, get shorter bags or remove them altogether if I move the shims from under the springs.
thanks for your input

Have you done an axle-over conversion on the trailer? If not, that may be the way to go. Or you could put some real small tires in the back. LOL
