Just curious if the 1 tons use a different rearend than the 3/4 tons of the same year. I mean stronger axles/bearings and such, not gear ratio..

Never mind, found what I was looking for 2 minutes after I posted.

10.5 ring gear in the 2500
11.5 ring gear in the 3500.

To my knowledge the axles are the same but the spring pack is different
could be wrong but i thought i was told that the 11.5 was the biggest axle put in a passenger rig

I think once Dodge went to the HO 5.9,all the trucks got the same 11.5" AAM axle.

I don't think the Powerwagon ever got anything other than the 10.5"

All Hemi powered gasser 2500s get the 10.5, including the Powerwagon. Some early 03 SO Cummins got the 10.5

All other Dodge Cummins 3rd gens have 11.5 AAM Axles. They are the same for 2500, 3500 SRW, and Dually.

I can't say much about what it's suppose to be, but when I went to buy my 06 I drove either another 06 2500 MC/Cummins with the smaller 10.5" axle and a smaller tow rating. It was on the sticker even. It's what drove me to a different dealership for the 11.5" 3500 MC. Just food for thought.

I'm guessing I have 10.5 in my early 03. It has the 47re trans too.. )-:}

Still has a 6000lb axle load rating for the rear which is all my tires will handle anyway.

Any quick way to ID the two different rears? More cover bolts, etc?

With the rare exception of early 03 SO autos (I think only 47RE trucks) all Cummins have the 11.5".. The dually does have a different inner wheel bearing to handle the stress of duals, but both SRW and DRW have the same GAWR per AAM of 10,900lbs...

Something isn't correct there... By 2004 there were no 10.5" axles on any truck with a Cummins...
