Question for 06 48RE Owners

I have 1200 miles on my truck and I have been noticing a noise that sounds like either transmission slippage or a fan engaging. The condition is intermittent and occurs when accellerating during slow speed commuting type driving. Tach doesn't move and I can't pick up a real change in performance, but it feels like some slippage is occurring. Then it goes right back to "normal".

Thought I would ask for advice before I went to the dealer since I am kind of hypersensitive to vehicles and might be overreacting. Just wondering if anyone else has felt anything like this.

I know I know, get a six speed. Lots of luck rowing one through Houston TX.

Thanks for your help.

If your AC is on and you are not moving or at slow speed the engine fan will engage to pull air through the condensor. The fan will disengage after you've accelerated to a higher speed. This will occur regardless of engine temperature. This could be what you are hearing.

Thanks Smokeman. This makes sense. I didn't know about the a/c controlling the fan. I was worried because the noise was occurring with a cold engine on ocassion. I checked it out at lunch and ran with the a/c compressor on and off and it did make a difference as to whether or not the fan would kick on. I did a quick uphill run in the parking garage as well, definitely no trans slippage. Only set of two car alarms.........
