Please help, I need a CTD education/2007 5.9/4x4/G56/quad cab

I have a 2007 quadcab CTD/G56/4x4 with a 5.9 and just in case I get stuck in the wilderness or a remote desert hwy I want to be prepared to fix minor issues and limp out of trouble. Anybody here carry a few extra items for on road emergency repair? I need to go to school on the CTD and I need some basic info on the engine.

1. is the CTD and chassis 100% metric H/W?
2. what is the largest metric fasteners used on the chassis or engine?
3. is the 2007 CTD a 12V system?
4. any precautions jump starting another truck or mine?

5a. can I bump start my truck if I have a bad starter? if so whats the procedure?

5b.can I bump start my truck if I have a dead batt? if so whats the procedure?

6. are the 2 12V batt's wired in parallel? they look like it!
7. will the 160amp alternator be a direct swap for the stock 130 amp alt.
8. what is the best service manual?
9. where can I view a exploded view of the engine compartment?
10. what is the electronic module located on the drivers side engine block

I need an equivelant list of items geared for the CTD? With all my gas engine 4x4s I carry:
service manual
fluids, power steering,break/clutch/motor
belts
hoses
clamps
gas cap
jb weld
ujoints
fuses
bulbs
steel tie wire
duct tape
ignition sender

At this cost level, you would be best served if you left most of that stuff at home a bought a sat phone to call in assistance.
These new trucks are so complex that most malfunctions require the dealers star-scan tool. You might be better off buying an older Gen 2 unit with a P-7100 pump. Now that thing is field repairable!

but as you asked...here are some answers...

1. is the CTD and chassis 100% metric H/W?
Mixed
2. what is the largest metric fasteners used on the chassis or engine?
Don't know
3. is the 2007 CTD a 12V system?
Yes
4. any precautions jump starting another truck or mine?
Standard pre-cautions
5. can I bump start my truck if I have a dead batt?
No, power is needed to operate the ECM.
6. are the 2 12V batt's wired in parallel?
Yes
7. will the 160amp alternator be a direct swap for the stock 130 amp alt.
Don't know
8. what is the best service manual?
You can download the 9900 page manual on theinternet or pat $350 for a papewr version from Daimler.
9. where can I view a exploded view of the engine compartment?
In the Service manual. All answers are there.
10. what is the electronic module located on the drivers side engine block
ECM-Engine Control Module

Happy adeventures!

Yes to revised #5

CD service manual should be less than $100 US, not as easy to use as a hard copy - but at least you can't spill beer & pizza on the pages! (of course, the hard drive doesn't like that stuff, either )

I've never cared for changing a tire on the side of the road with factory "tools" and I think lugging around plenty of tools is a good idea. You just never know.

You should always carry a spare fuel filter in your glove box too. Fleetguard part# FS 19800E
