I guess it comes down to whatever they have laying around at the factory at the time of assembly.

Does anyone know if all 3rd gen intercoolers are compatible with each other? Can I put an '03 metal intercooler in my '05? Would an '06 fit into mine as well?

I think they are the same. the 06 intercooler is goin in my 05 this week.
