Intercooler "tank" blew on my 05. It has blown on the warm air side of the intercooler. Dealer is pissing me off saying that they can only replace it with a plastic one and that they are on Backorder. Wonderful.

My question is they are saying that there is no way that any contaminants (like water or dirt) can get into the engine and that the truck can be operated normally until the replacement POS arrives. Does this make any sense? Seems to me that it is highly likely that contaminants can get in the engine.

The dealers should now have access to an aluminum end tank intercooler from D/C.

Calmly explain the availibility of the newer piece to the dealer and that D/C has replaced the plastic one with the newer style for the very reason yours blew out. Plastic is worthless for this application.

The newer trucks that are rolling off the assembly line now get the aluminum end tank intercoolers.

I poped mine last monday pulling my camper. They seem to be very weak. I talk to my dealer yesterday and they didn't say anything about being on backorder so I don't know I hope I get a metal one for the replacement one.

You may very well be able to operate it with little chance of contamination getting in as the broken part will constantly be leaking air out, but the leaking will reduce performance and may raise EGTs as well. The Banks intercoolers with High Ram are now available if you need a stronger than stock replacement.

 

My dealer called me today and said that mine was on backorder too. He said that it could be 10 to 14 days to get me one. He said that I was the 45 or 48th on the waiting list. He said the reason was is because they are redesigning it. So who knows if it will be plastic or metal.

 

I've heard these new Banks coolers are stronger then stock. What does that mean? stock ones hold 50, 60 lbs all day. How much do you need? Or do they mean the Banks will run cooler? Just wondering

at least it is the metal and not the weak plastic ones why are they waiting until 07 are they coming up with some other new stuff?

 

These parts are readily available now. Make sure they are ordering the correct part number. The number for the redesigned is 55056593AA. There are plenty around the country.
