Piece of Junk Trans!! 06
You don't want my opinion on the 48re now. It cost me thousands of dollars. This thing will not work in a truck used to pull weight. My dealer was the main problem because they wouldn't fix it and now it burned up and they voided my warranty. I will be back in a 6 speed as soon as I can. The 48re is fine for some uses but not mine. I was misled and royally screwed.
My 04.5 48re lasted just over 200k miles before it bit the dust. 68% of those miles were towing something, various weights. The gov. pressure switch went before 100k. IMO it held up pretty well. I don't abuse the truck as it is my "bread & butter." Due to financial reasons I had to have my Dodge dealer fix it, they gave me 90 days to pay for a major repair like that. The repaired tranny only lasted 80k before it blew out 1st gear. I "credit" the tech with that not the 48re, it already "proved" itself from the factory.
However, that breakdown led me to the purchase of my new truck with the new 6 spd. auto and I'm really luvin' it!! If this tranny lasts it is definitely the way to go for me. If I want to shift it manually I can or just let it alone - the best of both worlds!!
