Piece of Junk Trans!! 06

I'm really beginning to hate this 48re Crap. My wife has just called me to inform me that the Trans has gone haywire again in my 06. It would not shift into park and left her stranded at a local shopping center !! It only has about 4200 miles on it and get this- - - - - -I just got it back from the Dodge Dealer TODAY from it having the Valve Body Replaced in it.
They found a small piece of plastic in it when they dropped the pan. It drove fine for 1 hour, then poof!!!!!!!!! I'm completely through with this truck. This will be the 9THHHHHH TIME that it has left me/wife stranded. There will be 6sp in the Driveway MONDAY, or a friggin Chevy !!!

I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER AUTOMATIC IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!

I agree. Lemon that thing and get another. I love my auto. It might cost me my first born to upgrade and build but I've put the thing through hell and back with FAR more power than it was ever built for and it's doing great. And I've got the older, weaker version of your tranny. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna be running some of your trannies stock parts in my rebuild. Lemon that truck and get another auto. You won't be disappointed.

It dosent matter who the manufacture was, the auto just dosent do it right every time all the time-----------manuals= Consistency!!!

Oh they are going to be putting another tranny in there alright-------they have to sell it to someone!! I'm going to place a small tag in the underseat storage for the next owner to call me so that I can let them know what the deal with this truck is.

Did I mention that the truck was rolled off the assembly line at 3:33p.m. on a FRIDAY----------that old saying is true!

ya i wish i would have bought the wifes mega cab with a 6spd, she likes a standard better anyway, she says it keeps here more alert when having to shift, and i could have gotten her a sbc and i would have lasted her for life

texaspower19--------2 posts ago you were the !!!! Just picking!! I have drove a Mega with the auto and there is no way that I would buy one with it. I think that the gearing in the G56 will be great for the extra weight of the Truck at slower speeds!

Dodge autos are marginal. Thats why my 06 has 6 gears. I feel your pain....my 05 auto was not so good.

I'm not doubting you here, I am just wondering how you know when your truck was built, right down to the hour and minute.

A few comments.

First, it doesn't make a darn bit of difference when your truck was made because they run 7 days a week most of the time.

Second, the problem is with your trans, not your truck, and there is no possible way to know when it was made.

Third, In my experience, the 48re trans is a great transmission. I have personally owned 5 of them. And we use our trucks harder than just about anybody I know, and we have not had one fail or even have a hiccup yet. Also, Heavy duty Dodge Ram sales account for about 80% of our business, and half of those are auto's. We have not yet had to so much as touch a 48re for more than anything except a routine service. I have one customer that is a commercial hauler that has over 230,000 miles on his 04' dually with a 48re in it and all he has done is change the fluid and filter one time. To call the 48re as a whole an un-reliable trans I think would be a great mistake.
