pf 7977 does not fit?

Just got a pf7977 filter and it does not clip into the cap(it does not have a lip, smaller dia at top than oem) Is this correct?

Used it on my '06 and it clipped on the lid just fine. Don't know why it wouldn't for you. I guess it just makes it easyier to remove.

Just the top is to narrow diameter to clip into cap, no lip. Height and length are fine, cap pressure should hold filter down and in place I guess.

screwed down the cap and seems to have adequate down pressure. going with trynitro(I remember garlits and ed Iskiderian) unless someone is definite no no.
Just do not want to screw up.

New Napa Gold 3585XE fuel filters also no longer clip into the lid. No idea why they changed it. Clipping into the lid is only for ease of installation and removal. It has nothing to do with filtration because the filter seals at the bottom of the housing. Just push the new filter down into the housing until you feel it "thunk" and seal at the bottom. Please refrain from turning this into a filter war thread.

The design of the filters changed recently. Newly manufactured filters no longer clip in but have the same part number PF7977 for all 2003-2007 3rd gen 5.9 trucks.

Works for me. One end always had larger diameter. One side would clip in, other would not.
