p2149 COde - rough running

Hello All,
I just got this code in my truck after it lost power cruising down the freeway, I let it just idle and got off the road. I checked the code, and found the P2149, only.

I realise that some say it is a wiring problem, and I see some are saying injectors. My question is: can you check the resistance of the injectors through the plugs vs taking off the valve cover and checking the resistance at the top of the injectors?

The thing that I would need would be the pin locations that correlate to the injector numbers.

Any Help is Appreciated. I did have the truck towed to my mechanic, but he is mainly a gas engine mechanic. Although I know he does some work on Diesels, and I TRUST HIM!

Thanks,
Joe

Exclamation

SO, I talked with my Mechanic tonight and he has ohmed out the injectors, ohmed out the wiring harness and plugs, and all looked good. He used dielectric grease in all the plugs/connectors, and checked all of them. He cleared the code, started the truck up, and it stilled ran rough. Another friend/mechanic is going to bring him an ECM from a '05 manual, and they are going to try to start the truck to see if that makes it run right. If that fixes it then we all assume it was the ECM.

I really can't afford a new ECM, is this the only thing left? Are there any other checks that he can look for?

I hope someone can check in and help.

Thanks,
Joe

did he pull the valve cover and remove the harness off the injectors? if no then leaving them on will cause a false reading. make sure there is nothing hooked up to the injectors when ohming them out. also do the harness ohm test.

0-1.0 on the injectors is acceptable. anything over 1.0 is NO GOOD!

OK, thanks. I was thinking... Do you have to take the valve covers off to ohm the injectors? And if you take the cover off do you have to take the wires off so you don't get a false reading?

l really appreciate the help. I think I had originally asked him if you knew what terminals went to the injectors; couldn't you just check through the plugs vs taking the covers off? I was suggesting it. He did say that they all checked within factory specs, and were all close to each other.

Thanks,
Joe

Well, my Mechanic has checked the wiring, and injectors, and feels as though he as limited it done to the ECM, and we are waiting on an ECM out of an '05, manual. But, I am getting tired of waiting for a third party (friend) to bring it to the shop. Can I bring the truck to the dealer, or the ECM to get it checked out?

What should I do?

you have to pull the valve cover and unhook the harness wires from each injector to check them and get an accurate reading. Takes a little time but a must to get an accurate reading. My bet would be injector or harness, not ecm but anythings possible

So, I still do not have my truck back yet. I wanted to make sure the shop has done everything they could before they/I buy a computer to swap in. I really do not want to pay for a computer, so I wanted to make sure everything else checked out. They did find that injector 4 was bad, so that was changed, but did not make a difference, so it looks like the computer is next.

Where is the best/cheapest place, or option to get a computer?

Also, I had high idle and the fog-lights programed into the truck, will changing the ecm do anything to mess with that?

Thanks,
Joe

update 5/2/11 - I got my Truck back on Friday and the changed the #4 injector an the ECM. Saturday, the new ECM that Dodge put in failed -> Refurb no new ones are sold. So the truck went back in on Sat, and I was called today and they told me that I will have the truck back on Friday afternoon.

Sucks it's been over three months.

I have the trouble codes P0204, P0205, P0206, and P2149. The engine has a really rough idle, and the dealer says it is the ECU... Which was going to run me about $3,000. So instead I sent it to Auto Computer Exchange... and they told me that the ECU was completely fine and that they tested it three times. So just today I got it back and checked the ohms on all the wires, injectors, and the valve cover gasket and it all checked out fine. Any suggestions???

Same thing happened to me about three weeks ago. I was hauling the horse trailer down the freeway and the check engine light turned on. I pulled over almost immediately because the truck started running rough. I checked the codes, and I only got a p2149 code. Did some research and I changed the fuel filter, and valve cover and the truck still runs rough and is making a loud clanking sound. Any suggestions? There is no smoke coming out the tailpipe.

They look good.
I sent my computer there and they SAID it was okay... But I still have my doubts.

I would do it on autocomputerexchange.com
But right now dodgeautocomputers.com has a price mess up where it is only $150 for the R&R (Repair & Return) service.
