Oil Pan Removal

I need to replace my oil on my 2005 2500 4x4 with an auto transmission. Before I start this project I wanted to make sure I had everything I need to do this in driveway. I have already purchased the new pan gasket (oil pan and pick up tube) and oil pan bolts. My Buddy is bringing his 2 ton engine hoist over. I have read several posts about replacing the oil pan and it seems doable, but recently I read a post from someone that tried to do this on a dodge with an auto that talked about issues getting the pan out a dodge with an auto trans. Has anyone tried replacing the pan on a 2005 with an auto trans that has run into issues?

Thanks in advance

I have never been able to get oil pan off with trans still in. Not enough room, I've heard of techs lifting cab up to do job. I have always replaced rear main seal along with oil pan gasket. Over 100k miles rear main seal and front crank seal will be leaking soon enough. 4X4 rear trans seal is another known leaker at 100k miles along with rear transfer case seal. Good luck

I did mine on my 06. Make sure you loosen up the tranny mount and you will have to remove one exhaust clamp after the turbo shouldn't be any different than the 06.

I did a write up on this a few years ago on a 2005 4x4 auto. You can search for it, the bid thing is to jack the truck up from the frame, this will allow the pan to clear the bell housing. I used wood blocks and an engine lift, hooked to the front lift ring on the engine.
